Charter Petition 2025 - NSWA

EUSD has received a charter petition from North Star Waldorf Academy Charter School. Charter schools can request a local education agency for authorization to operate a school within the jurisdictional boundaries of the authorizing agency. If authorization is granted by the District’s Board of Trustees, North Star Waldorf will operate as a separate legal entity, but the District will have oversight responsibilities for the charter school.

The District will review the petition for legal compliance as well as conduct a detailed review and analysis in all areas such as curriculum and education, business and finance, liability and risk management, as well as student rights and special education. The information gathered is to determine the soundness and workability of the proposed school. The results of the review will be posted publicly on August 4, 2025. The Board will take final action on August 19, 2025.

The District’s Board of Trustees also must also consider input from the district teachers, other district employees and the community that would be impacted by the charter at a public hearing.

PUBLIC HEARING & PUBLIC INPUT:

A public hearing took place during the regularly scheduled EUSD board meeting on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 6:00 pm. Public input could be provided in person at the meeting, or sent in writing to the Board of Trustees at board@eusd.net. Comments submitted via email will be provided to the Board but were not read aloud at the public hearing. Although the public hearing has already taken place, comments can still be sent to the board until a decision is made. The Board will take final action on August 19, 2025.
