Board Member Vacancy & Application - Summer 2022
The Encinitas Union School District is seeking applications from interested residents to serve on the District’s Governing Board until December 2022. At the June 23, 2022 special meeting, the Board of Trustees approved to fill the vacancy by way of appointment. The candidate will be appointed to fill the remaining balance of a four-year term, which would be up for election in November 2022 and ends no later than December 13, 2022. A candidate, even if appointed to the short-term vacancy, would need to run for election if they are interested in continuing on the Board.
The Board vacancy occurred due to Board Member Gregg Sonken’s passing in June 2022. In accordance with the law, the appointment must be made within sixty (60) days of the vacancy. The Board vacancy is expected to be filled immediately after interviews are conducted at a Board meeting in July 2022.
