"Dr. DeVore has played an integral role in developing powerful teamwork between the board, staff and community these past four years," stated board president, Carol Skiljan. "He is a dynamic, proven leader, quite capable of guiding the Encinitas Union School District as we continue our efforts on behalf of children."

Dr. DeVore has actively represented the district in many roles including the Strategic Planning Committee, chair of the Technology Task Force, Disaster Preparedness Planning, San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) Higher Education Liaisons Committee, SDCOE Superintendent's Technology Action Committee, certificated and classified personnel technology implementation, classified and certificated staff development and labor relations.

Our new superintendent has been a teacher, mentor teacher, staff developer, assistant principal and elementary school principal during his 30 years of service to the educational community.

Dr. DeVore earned his doctorate from the University of La Verne in Educational Management and Change Theory. He has taught in the doctorate program at the University of La Verne and in the graduate program at Chapman University. His awards over the years have included Teacher of the Year, mentor teacher and the first recipient of the "Spirit of La Verne Award" from the Educational Management Department.

"I am very excited about the opportunity I have to lead the Encinitas Union School District into the 21st century," said Dr. DeVore.

"We have an exemplary team consisting of our board, administrators, teachers, and support staff working to meet the needs of children and to provide powerful learning experiences in the classroom for all children. I'm looking forward to continuing the strong partnership between the school district and our community as we work together to help children reach for the stars."

EEF Calendar Contest

Your child's drawing could be chosen to adorn the Encinitas Educational Foundation's calendar that will be sold for the '98-'99 school year. This calendar will have all elementary school breaks and modified days, and stickers to highlight your school's conferences, assemblies and open house.

Artwork will be collected and judged for three months at a time. The application for August, September and October was sent home the week of January 5 and is due January 26. The contest will continue for each successive three month period. Have your child choose his/her favorite season or submit work for every month.
