Dear Parents:

Welcome to the New Year! I am pleased to announce that Y2K was a non-event for our schools. I credit this to the hard work of Dr. Grider and Noesis, our technology support team. They have been working the past year to assure that all our systems would be compatible with the New Year.

In our last edition of The Envoy I reported on our celebration of the ground breaking at El Camino Creek School. Construction is moving quickly at our newest school located in the new housing development of La Costa Valley. Now,

I am very pleased to announce that I have appointed the principal for El Camino Creek School. At the January 11th board meeting I announced the assignment of Dr. Debbie Blow to provide leadership for our new school.

Dr. Blow was recognized as Administrator of the Year in May 1999. She has provided leadership at La Costa Heights School for the past six years. During her tenure at La Costa Heights the school was recognized as a California Distinguished School and recently received the honor of being named a National Blue Ribbon School. She serves as the chair of the District Web Committee and is a founding member of the district’s Technology Committee. Dr. Blow is recognized as a curriculum leader in our district and the county. She is very active in the San Diego County Math Leaders Organization and has assisted with our district’s creation of the Standards Based Assessment in Mathematics.

Dr. Blow will be released in February from her duties as Principal of La Costa Heights to focus on the task of opening El Camino Creek School. In anticipation of this appointment, the district has posted a principal opening and the selection process has already begun. The selection process is very thorough and is designed to result in a top candidate to provide leadership for La Costa Heights. In fact, it is the district selection process that brought us Dr. Blow in February of 1994 as a result of the opening of Olivenhain Pioneer School. The final selection of a principal for La Costa Heights should culminate with the announcement of the successful candidate at the board meeting scheduled on February 8, 2000.

As you can tell, the year 2000 will be an exciting year for our district as we prepare to open a new school to meet the needs of children in our growing community. Further, we are looking forward to working with you as we join together to provide a powerful educational experience for all children in our district.
