Now that school is almost out for the summer break I have been
reflecting on this past year's successes. As I shared in my last letter, we have
experienced many accomplishments for the children in our district. Our successes would not
have been possible without the efforts of our many heroes who perform miraculous feats on
a daily basis to make a positive difference in the lives of our children.
I recently read an anonymous quote that said "The
difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the little extra." On Monday
evening, May 18, 1998, we had the opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary people who
work miracles to ensure the success of our children. This celebration, our Salute to the
Stars, was a tribute honoring our teachers, classified/support staff, parents, business
community and administrators who constantly give more than that little extra.

A very special highlight of the evening was an award
of lifetime recognition to Dr. Lynnette Robinson. Lynnette is retiring this year due to
health problems. She is one of our heroes who has dedicated her life to being an advocate
for children and is a role model for all. Lynnette is one of those rare people that you
are thankful to know. She is a person who models what is good and positive in education
and in life.
The Board of Trustees and I are proud of our team of
extraordinary people who make this district great. We offer our most sincere thank you to
all our unsung heroes who work to make this district and community a better place in which
children can grow, learn and become successful citizens. This issue is dedicated to all of
our extraordinary people.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire district
staff, we wish you and your families a joyful, as well as relaxing summer break. We look
forward to the exciting possibilities for the 1998-99 school year.
