Superstars

Are you aware of the many awards and special recognition given to the teachers and programs in Encinitas? Here are just a few of the most recent honors our teachers have earned.

GATE Teacher of the Year

Sallie Kolbulnicky of La Costa Heights has been selected as a Gifted and Talented Teacher of the Year by the California Association of the Gifted. She received her award at the State Convention on February 27. State Convention on February 27, Anaheim.

California Distinguished Schools
Three more EUSD schools are finalists for the California Distinguished Schools:

Mission Estancia
Dr. Ray O'Toole, Principal

Leslie Harden, Principal

Capri
Tim Reeve, Principal.

Two schools received Honorable Mention:
Flora Vista, Gail Patterson, Principal;
Ocean Knoll, Owen O'Connor, Principal.

They join current distinguished Schools: La Costa Heights, Paul Ecke Central/Pacific View and Olivenhain Pioneer, who received the honor last year.

$53,000 Grant

Reading mentors, Ariel Lyon from La Costa Heights and Joan Whitley from Paul Ecke Central collaborated with Park Dale Lane parent Sharon Omahen to win a $53,000 reading improvement grant for teachers of grades 4 through 6.

Rotary Teacher of the Year

Lencsi Angel, from Paul Ecke Central/ Pacific View, was selected as the Encinitas Rotary Teacher of the Year for March 1998. At left, Howard Reed, president of Encinitas Rotary Club, presents Lencsi with her award.

A Toast to Teachers

Nominated by their students, teachers from throughout the district were honored by Sylvan Learning Center at an elegant afternoon tea at the La Costa Resort in February. Just a few of the many district educators honored are pictured here.
