Dear Parents,
The 1998-99 school year is off to a great start for all children thanks to the heroic efforts of teachers, classified employees, and administrators of the Encinitas Union School District. I was pleased to welcome back all of our dedicated employees at this year's welcome back celebration on August 21. It truly was a celebration as we focused on our accomplishments of the 1997-98 school year and looked forward to continued success in providing all children a powerful, high quality educational experience, as evidenced by our high standardized test scores and the statewide recognition of our schools. I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Dan Grider has joined our team as assistant superintendent of administrative services and Beverly Barret has come on board as our new director of pupil personnel services. It is with great pleasure that I share with you the appointment of Dr. Nancy Cunningham as director of administrative support services and Gregg Sonken as principal of PEC/PV. Dr. Nancy Cunningham's new position will provide leadership in the area of technology and grant writing for the district. She offers the support needed to effectively move our technology plan into the twenty-first century and generate exciting programs and funds for children. Nancy has provided leadership in both of these areas as principal of PEC/ PV and will now be able to share her expertise with all sites across our district. Gregg brings strong leadership and instructional skills to his position as principal of PEC/PV. He has played a major role in setting and maintaining high standards for student learning as assistant principal. We are fortunate to have him take over the leadership reins from Nancy.
Proposition O implementation is manifesting itself throughout the district! For a detailed report on work completed, work in progress, and future projects, please see pages 4 and 5 of this issue. Further, I would like to announce that we have hired Alicia Queen as assistant principal at PEC/PV and Lorraine Thompson as assistant principal to support LCH and OPE. In closing, the many accomplishments we have achieved for children would not have been possible without the support and involvement of our parents. As we enter into the parent-teacher conference months I
would encourage you to continue with your high level of support for your children. Take
the time to meet with the teacher of your child, ask questions about their progress and
seek opportunities to support and extend their learning at home |
