Kathy Myers named La Costa
Heights
Kathy lives in Leucadia with her husband. She enjoys car shows, rod runs, and NHRA racing at Pomona. She shares that she has no children, except for the special ones at La Costa Heights School. Kathy is talented, experienced and truly dedicated to supporting children’s success at La Costa Heights. She is an asset to the students, school, and the field of education. |
Kathy
Myers, Classified Employee of the Year for La Costa Heights School, is an instructional
assistant and currently works with the teachers and students in The Learning Center. The
Learning Center is a specially designed Special Education class that supports students
with special needs in the mainstream general education classes. Kathy started working for
the Encinitas Union School District in 1976 in general education, working at Ocean Knoll
for fifteen years. Kathy worked as a noon duty supervisor and as an instructional
assistant for general education classes at several different grade levels. She also worked
as an assistant in the media center. Kathy started in special education in 1992 and has
worked with students with special needs ever since. 
Kathy
emphasizes that she enjoys working with the students. Her love for the students and
dedication to their success is evident in everything she does at La Costa Heights. Kathy
has worked with students with severe disabilities and then was part of the group that
started The Learning Center. She has participated in several Autism workshops and
conferences and has shared information with her fellow colleagues. She has helped at the
District Office, reorganizing special education files. Kathy has presented training for
the Beginning Teachers Support and Assessment (BTSA) for new teachers on the new special
education filing system. She has worked as a liaison with other special education classes
to help with the training of instructional assistants. She has participated on the
Futuring Committee for Special Education and on the task force for the Futuring Committee.
Kathy has participated in Professional Assault Response Training (PART) and is a valuable
member of the Professional Assault Response Team (PART) at La Costa Heights School. She
received the Founder's Day award in the 80's at Ocean Knoll, and has been honored before
as the Employee of the Year at La Costa Heights.
