New Principals Selected for Schools in the
Encinitas Union School District

At a special meeting of the Board of Trustees on November 5, 2007, Dr. Lean King, Superintendent, announced the selection of Carrie Brown and Erin English as new principals in the Encinitas Union School District. Ms. Brown will take the helm at El Camino Creek School and Ms. English will take the reigns at Olivenhain Pioneer School.

Carrie Brown replaces former El Camino Creek principal, Kathy Brown, who accepted a position as principal in the Poway Unified School District. Ms. Brown started teaching in 1987 in the San Diego Unified School District. In 1995, she became a bilingual teacher in the Vista Unified School District at Beaumont Elementary School where she later became a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for four years acting as administrative designee. Most recently, she has been the Principal of Beaumont Elementary School for the past year. Her experiences include classroom teacher, SIP/Title I Coordinator, Technology leadership, leadership for staff development, creating and managing enrichment programs, data driven decision making, leading professional learning communities, and differentiated instruction.

Supervisors, co-workers, and parents describe Ms. Brown as a “pillar of the school.” She is a strong instructional leader who loves children, is a team player, and someone who walks the talk. She possesses strong people and interpersonal skills with exceptional communication skills. She is a woman of character with a strong work ethic who wants to see all children become successful. She is a collaborative, dedicated, passionate, and enthusiastic professional whose focus is on student achievement. She strives to establish and nurture positive and trusting relationships

Erin English replaces Dr. Belinda Minor at Olivenhain Pioneer School. Dr. Minor is now principal at Capri School. Currently principal at Mission Meadows Elementary School in the Vista Unified School District, Ms. English has also been an Assistant principal in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District, the Moreno Valley Unified School District, and Escondido Union School District. She has also served as a leader in instructional technology. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of La Verne. She holds certifications in GATE, California School Leadership Academy and Assistive Technologies.

Ms. English’s supervisors, co-workers, and parents describe her as a forward looking leader who strives to build capacity in people while developing and unifying the school community. She possesses a strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction and instructional technology. She loves children, always putting children first with the goal to educate all children. She is described as a good listener who values trust. Ms. English is visible, approachable, available, receptive, collaborative, inclusive, personable, enthusiastic, and a skilled team builder.

Both Carrie Brown and Erin English will assume their roles as principals in the Encinitas Union School District in late November 2007.
