of the Year Named

Congratulations toIrene Elliott , Certificated Administrator of the Year, and Gerry Devitt , Classified Administrator of the Year.

Irene Elliott , Director of Pupil Personnel Services, is the years' Certificated Administrator of the Year. Irene has served EUSD for the past four years but has over thirty-four years experience in public education. She was a teacher in San Diego Unified School District and Village Montessori Schools in Sacramento. She has also served as a schoolPsychologist in San Juan Unified School District, and a Coordinator of Special Education and Director of Student Support Services in Rescue Unified School District prior to coming to Encinitas.She is also a part-time faculty member at Cal State University Sacramento.

In the short time Irene has been in EUSD, she has established herself both in the district and the county as an outstanding professional who possesses expertise in a variety of areas serving students with special needs. She understands categorical programs, is capable of creating and implementing effective programs, and ensures our district is always in compliance with state and federal regulations.

In addition to being EUSD’s Certificated Administrator of the Year, Irene has also received such honors as NASP Outstanding School Psychologist Award of California, NASP Government and Public Relations Award, El Dorado County ACSA Outstanding Administrator, and El Dorado County SELPA Outstanding Special Educator Award.

Gerry Devitt is this year's Classified Administrator of the Year. Gerry is Director of Maintenance, Operations, Grounds and Facilities. He has been with the Encinitas Union School District for over twenty years. He was hired into the District as a Maintenance Assistant in 1987. Since then, he has worked as a Groundskeeper, Grounds Lead, Supervisor of Maintenance, Operations and Grounds, and now Director.

Gerry is instrumental in so many aspects of the EUSD’s success. Through Gerry’s leadership, facility improvements are completed on time; classrooms are in good shape for the opening of schools; our schools and staff remain prepared in the event of a disaster or crisis; campuses are well maintained; and District relations with our communities are enhanced through Gerry’s personal and professional interactions and responsiveness.

Over the years, Gerry has won the hearts of most employees in EUSD and many community members as a result of his quick responsiveness, positive attitude, knowledge, and personable style with people. He has received numerous letters of appreciation and compliments because of his leadership and hands-on approach to improving school facilities and school site beautification efforts.

Gerry has always been a very valuable resource to the District. In addition to his expertise in a variety of maintenance, grounds and facility/construction areas, he is a Certified Playground Safety Inspector.He has completed the Classified Employee Leadership Development Academy through the San Diego County Office of Education.Gerry has also been Classified Employee of the Year in the past as well.
