Special Education
Futuring Committee
The Special Education Department Futuring Committee members continue to work on behalf of the students with special education needs in the District. The Futuring Committee, a.k.a. "Crystal Ball Folks," is composed of parents and representatives from each of the disciplines in special education -- teachers, speech therapists, school psychologists, counselor, nurses, instructional assistants, occupational therapist, etc.
The Futuring Committee meets three times a year to review the District's Strategic Plan, special education legislative updates and parent survey results, to make recommendations for special education program development and staff and parent trainings. Each member brings to the table issues and concerns of the constituents they represent: "Playground Equipment," "Teaching Social Skills to Your Child," "Attention Deficit Disordered Child," "After Sixth Grade - What's Next?", etc.
Program Development - The Futuring Committee has been instrumental in recommending program development in areas that improve the quality of education for all students. Most noteworthy have been the early intervention program for preschool children, occupational therapist services and learning center classes.
Staff Development - Staff development and program development work hand in hand in improving educational quality. Staff participates in all district training, the special education consortium workshops and special education sponsored inservices.
