SKILLED MAINTENANCE WORKER

DEFINITION:

Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair and construction tasks in the upkeep of site facilities; performs semi-skilled and skilled functions in one or more of the basic building and maintenance trades; and does other related work as assigned.

DUTIES:

This employee is required to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance repair and construction work in one or more of the building mechanical or technical trades. May be required to do carpentry, painting, plumbing, heating, electrical, tile flooring, ceiling, masonry, glazing, welding work and other related areas. May load and transport equipment, make minor adjustments and keep equipment in good repair. May evaluate job requests and may recommend or order specific materials. Perform moderate or heavy labor as required, may assist in custodial duties; may assist in moving on track change days and perform other duties as requested.

Knowledge of:

• standard methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair and construction work
• safe and working methods and procedures

Ability to

• use time and materials in an effective manner
• create shop drawings and sketches and work from blueprints
• maintain records and prepare reports related to maintenance activities
• understand and carry out oral and written directions
• establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
• maintain a good driving record and quality for District vehicle insurance coverage
• may perform heavy physical labor including carrying and lifting

Experience:

• two years experience as a skilled worker in one or more of the basic trades

Education:

• equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade
• additional training in one or more of the basic trades is preferred License Required:
• possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license
