CUSTODIAL LEADPERSON

DEFINITION:

Under direction of the Superintendent or his designee, performs custodial work while supervising the day to day operation of the operations department; schedules custodian personnel; coordinates emergency, routine and substitute custodial tasks; purchases, stocks and evaluates custodial inventory, products and systems. Periodically evaluates products for recommendation of use or substitution of products; interviews, trains new custodial personnel and assists in the evaluation of said personnel; performs monthly inspection of all school sites; meets with site administrators on a weekly basis; performs other duties related work as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Knowledge of

• methods, material and equipment used in custodial, groundskeeping and light maintenance work
• requirements and methods for maintaining a safe, clean and orderly condition of school sites
• principles of supervision and procedures, training and evaluation of custodial service and personnel
• principles of organization and management

Ability to

• train, direct and supervise, while working with the custodial personnel
• maintain records and prepare reports related to operation department activities
• establish and maintain an inventory management system
• develop and enforce safe work standard and high quality levels of service to all school sites
• understand and carry out oral and written direction and communicate in English
• establish and maintain cooperative working relationships

Experience

• two years experience in the building custodial field

Education

• equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by technical and vocational course work in a directly related field

License Required

• possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License
