
FUNCTION:
Provides an educational program for learning handicapped pupils who have marked learning or behavior disorders, or both, associated with a neurological handicap or emotional disturbance but not attributable to mental retardation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the immediate direction of the Director of Pupil Personnel with assistance from the School Principal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Credential:
General Elementary or Multiple Subjects and Learning Handicapped Specialist
Education:
Bachelor's Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements. Course work in the psychological characteristics of exceptional children and remedial techniques in the basic skills subject areas is desirable.
Experience:
Two years of successful classroom teaching in the district is normally required before assignment to this position. Experience in working with educationally handicapped children and/or in remedial teaching techniques, reteaching of reading, or reading center program is desirable. Clinical experience with the neurologically handicapped is desirable.
Personal Qualities:
Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable example for pupils.
Ability to meet district standards for physical and mental health. Better than average recommendations from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and classroom performance of the teacher. Empathy for the educationally handicapped pupil.
