ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION SPECIALIST

FUNCTION:

The Adapted Physical Educatim Specialist is responsible for implementing a Consultant Model in Adapted Physical Education for students in special education programs and students mainstreamed into physical education programs.

DUTIES:

• implements the Adapted Physical Education Consultant Model to meet the individual needs of students
• Assess individual students and prescribes activities for classrom teachers and resource specialists
• Consults and interacts regularly with classroom teachers, resource specialists, physical and occupational therapists, nurses, school psychologists, aclninistrators, parents and instructional aides regarding program and individual needs of students
• Demonstrates activities for classroom teachers and resource specialists
• Provides staff develognent (inservice) for teachers in special education and regular education
• Consults, trains, coordinates and supervises and Adapted Physical Education aides, volunteers and Adapted Physical Education field work students in Adapted Physical Education
• Attends individual Education Planning Team meetings
• Makes recommendations to classroom teacher in developing students' individual Educational Plans
• Schedules and attends project meetings when appropriate
• Keeps and maintains appropriate records as requested
• Maintains proper care of equipment
• Provides input and writes activities for special programs which involve physical education for handicapped students
• Participates as a team member in planning and developing the Adapted Physical Education Program at schools in the district

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Credential:

California State Elementary Teaching credential with authorization for Adapted Physical Education

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education
