BILINGUAL EDUCATION SPECIALIST

DEFINITION:

Assumes responsibilities for development and coordination of school and District level activities as they relate to English Learners.

DUTIES:

• Provides expertise in English Language Development (ELD), Specially Designed Academic Instruction on English (SDAIE), bilingual education and Dual-language Immersion
• Implements and coordinates ELD and bilingual educational activities
• Responsible for and conducts professional inservice in ELD, SDAIE, and bilingual education according to the needs of the school staff
• Schedules and conducts parent involvement activities involving bilingual and ELD instructional program
• Assists in the collection of evaluative data at the school and district level
• Assists in the planning and selection of bilingual and ELD curriculum
• Assists in developing inservice training programs for teachers and other personnel
• Performs other duties as required

SUPERVISION:

• Directly responsible to the Administrator of Special Programs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Credential:

General Elementary, Standard Elementary, or Multiple Subjects Teaching. Bilingual Credential or Certificate of Competence.

Education:

Bachelor's degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements with specialization in bilingual and multicultural education.

Experience:

Three years of successful classroom teaching in the district is normally required before assignment to this position. Must have expertise in bilingual education.

Other:

Must exhibit fluency in both English and Spanish

Knowledge expertise in the area of:

ELD, CA ELD Standards
SDAIE techniques and strategies
Standards in Action Lesson Design
