
BTSA Coordinator
DEFINITION
Under the direction of the North Coastal Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) Consortium Advisory Committee, the BTSA Coordinator will oversee and implement the BTSA program, and will coordinate services that provide beginning teachers support and access to the best professional growth guided by the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and the California Induction program Standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize, and direct programs, services, and activities aligned with the California Induction Program Standards in collaboration with the North Coastal Consortium participating districts.
- Develop and manage a comprehensive professional development program consistent with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and California Professional Credential requirements.
- Develop agendas and facilitate monthly BTSA trainings and workshops.
- Offer assistance to those serving as support providers.
- Prepare annual Program Improvement Plan based on data to be sent to the California Department of Education.
- Establish a communications system to ensure BTSA Consortium district leads and advisory committee members receive timely information regarding program, budget and activities.
- Prepare and monitor budgets for the overall effectiveness of the BTSA Program.
- Plan and facilitate BTSA Advisory Committee meetings.
- Carry out responsibilities as the lead contact to the California Department of Education and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Conduct ongoing communication with beginning teachers, administrators, and support providers.
- Prepare and present annual report to the BTSA Consortium districts.
- Provide evaluations of the BTSA Program.
- Attend State BTSA Director's meetings, including the BTSA Site Administrators' Academy or its equivalent.
- Attend CFASST training for Support Providers and Senior Trainers, cultural diversity training and serve as a trainer for our consortium as needed.
- Plan and implement meetings with the district Liaisons, Support Providers, IHE representatives, and the Advisory Committee.
- Design a system of accountability, using measurable data that will continually monitor the program's effectiveness.
- Create the necessary database for BTSA session attendance, and other documents to support the assessments and program activities.
- Serve as liaison between BTSA participants, districts and the Advisory Committee.
- Report to the Board of Trustees of the Consortium districts concerning the overall program effectiveness on a yearly basis.
- Recommend participating teachers for their professional clear teaching credential based on documented completion requirements.
- Identify and implement appropriate support services for second year teachers in the program.
- Act as the key decision-maker when necessary adjustments are needed.
- Coordinate support provided by the IHE participants.
- Provide feedback to support providers, using BTSA assessment strategies on a quarterly basis.
- Monitor and adjust BTSA program design in relation to program standards.
- Serve as spokesperson for the BTSA program for community groups, local businesses and other groups with an interest in the success of beginning teachers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION GUIDE
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- BTSA program and funding.
- In-depth knowledge of the Induction Program Standards for the State of California.
- Exemplary instructional strategies as aligned to the California Math and Language Arts Standards, the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, and principles of cognitive coaching.
- Evaluation and assessment practices.
- Modern office methods, equipment, and procedures.
- District operations - policies, rules, and regulations.
- ABILITY TO:
- Read, interpret and apply complex rules and regulations.
- Communicate effectively with staff, parents, school sites, community members, government agencies.
- Coordinate a variety of activities at different sites.
- Coach staff.
- Supervise and evaluate office support staff.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Possession of a valid California Teaching Credential.
- Possession of a valid California Administrative Services Credential is desirable.
- 5 years of teaching experience, with additional mentoring and administrative experience preferred.
- Experience conducting and coordinating professional development activities.
- Experience working effectively with teachers and administrators.
- BTSA Leadership experience is desired.
