Role of School Site Council

Composed of equal numbers of parents and staff, the school site council is a major decision making body for the school.  This group is responsible for the development and implementation of the school's strategic plan, and mission, and vision statements.  Using these documents, the school site council (SSC) makes decisions regarding school programs and funding.  In particular, the site council makes decisions each years as to the expenditure of the school's categorical funds - School Improvement Program (SIP),  Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), Environmental Impact Aides (EIA), and the district block grant.

Members of the school site council are elected by their respective constituencies - teachers elect teacher representatives, parents elect parents etc.   The number of members of a school site council is defined in the organization's by-laws.  However, the council cannot exceed a membership of 20 - 10 staff members, 10 parents.  Site Council members are elected for a two year term.
