Quotes From Our Teachers

Meghan Ling - Kindergarten

"Working with children in the Dual Immersion Program inspires me. The children are excited and enthusiastic and love to take risks in their learning. I love seeing all of the students in our classroom interact and be a part of our classroom "family." The children receive a high level of education in this program. They actively participate in their learning and are held to the highest of expectations. Not only that, but they make new friends from other cultures. We all love to make new friends!"

Eloisa Bulow - 1st Grade

"I am so proud to be a part of the Dual Immersion Program at Capri. As a former Capri student, I feel especially close to the school and the community. The Immersion Program gives me an opportunity to teach in Spanish, my first language, to a diverse group of children. Spanish speaking children are able to maintain their native language while learning English. The English speaking children are given the opportunity to learn another language. The children develop a mutual respect for each other's culture and language. It is so wonderful for me to see the friendships blossom in my classroom between the children.

Sally Russell - 5th Grade

"My original motivation for wanting to teach the Dual Immersion Program was to work with Spanish speaking students in a program that would better maintain and truly improve their Spanish, would help them acquire real academic fluency in English better than in the mainstream program, and would help them to excel academically. Previously, it was very common for the Spanish speaking students to lose their Spanish as they acquired English and, indeed they rarely attained high levels of academic Spanish. I also wanted to see the English speaking and Spanish speaking students mix socially. The Dual Immersion Program does all these things. Spanish speaking and English speaking students learn from each other. At an early age they model one language and learn to speak the second language without an accent; they depend on each other for help and expertise. All students are valued. Both languages are valued. Academics are valued."
