We are pleased to
offer the Dual Language Immersion Program at Capri Elementary School. The
Dual Language Immersion Program is a challenging and rigorous academic program
in which Spanish is used as the primary language of instruction. We believe that through participation in this program, our students will become
bilingual and bi-literate by the end of sixth grade and be better prepared to be
contributing citizens in our global society.
According to
research at Harvard, UCLA, and in Canada, immersion students gain more mental
flexibility, better vocabularies, and have a greater capacity for abstract
thought. Additional research indicates that students in immersion
programs, whether tested in their native language or second language,
consistently score equal to or better than students in English only
classes. We are truly excited to offer this opportunity to the children of
the Encinitas Union School District.
We agree with former
U.S. Secretary of Education, Richard W. Riley, who stated: "Proficiency
in English and one other language is something that we need to encourage among
young people. Our nation can only grow stronger if all of our children grow up
learning two languages. Our global economy demands it; our children
deserve it."
We welcome the
opportunity to share our program with you. Please contact our school
office at (760) 944-4360 to find out about our parent meetings and/or tours of
the school.
