Pupil Personnel Services Department
The Encinitas Union School District believes that all children can learn. To that end we provide a variety of supports and services to enable our students to be successful.
The District offers a continuum of services in the least restrictive environment to students from preschool through sixth grade who have been identified through the IEP process as eligible for special education. All sites house a Learning Resource Center, which provides collaborative, consultative and pull out services based on each child’s Individualized Education Plan. For students with more severe needs Regional Special Day Classes are offered at Flora Vista and La Costa Heights schools. In addition to these programs a variety of related services, which include speech, adaptive physical education and occupational therapy are also provided on site via the IEP.
All Special Education teachers are credentialed and receive on going training in research based methods of instruction. Using a variety of multi-sensory, structured, sequential instructional techniques, teachers provide students with the support required in order to be successful in the core curriculum. Student’s goals and objectives are written towards district standards and progress is monitored. To assist students in progressing towards their goals, researched-based programs such as Corrective Reading™, Reading Mastery™ and Read Naturally™ may be used. In addition strategies such as Seeing Stars™, Visualizing and Verbalizing™ and Linda-mood Phonemic Sequencing™ program may also be used. In the area of technology, software such as SOLO™ ( Co-Writer, Write-Out-Loud) is also available at each site.
Parents are a vital part of our Special Education program and a Community Advisory Committee holds monthly meetings. The district Futuring Committee also meets to advise on local issues. Please refer to district calendar for specific meeting dates.
