Time for kids
We would like to introduce you to an exciting program at 7 of our schools in the district. The Primary Interaction Program (PIP) provides students in kindergarten through third grade with some special attention in a playroom setting. It is a program that enhances the educational experience and personal development of children who may be:
- feeling uncomfortable at school
- shy, withdrawn, or overly active in a classroom setting
- experiencing mild learning difficulties
- having difficulties with friends
- having to cope with changes at home such as a new baby, divorce, moving, loss of a pet, etc.
All students in kindergarten through third grade will be screened to help identify those students who might benefit most from this program. Children accepted into the program will have the opportunity to meet individually, for 30 minutes once a week for a period of 12 weeks, with a special adult friend, and engage in various play and creative activities. The child aide, who works under close professional supervision, offers the child a supportive and non-judgmental relationship that can foster positive self-esteem, decrease stress levels, heighten learning readiness, and develop an enhanced sense of belonging to the school. If your child is chosen to participate in this program, his/her teacher will contact you for written permission to participate. If you are contacted, we hope you will allow your child to participate and have the opportunity to have another adult friend on campus.
Research shows that when students are in a setting that promotes social and emotional learning, their academic performance improves as well. We are excited to offer this highly successful program at our school!
